…growing tomatoes in Central Illinois, that is.
The cherry tomatoes have ripened first, of course – about 1″ in diameter, very sweet and tangy.
Here’s the biggest brandywine….
…but the rest aren’t much smaller.
And the basil grows in bushes here.
Basil as a cut flower – who would have thought?
(It was an accident – I had some extra sprigs in water waiting for the next meal, and then a geranium blossom fell out and I had to put it somewhere. Since the photo was taken, I’ve added two mini corsages of some kind of tiny, clustering purple flower that we were given at a wedding .)

Yes, it is one of the things I’ll really miss about this region (assuming I do leave!). The Brandywines are turning pink as of today!
