Spring for procrastinators April 18, 2006Posted by merp in Animules, Champaign-Urbana, Gardening, Life, Pisco!, Tulips.
Tulips in front of our building, finally last week! I never can get used to spring in the Midwest, even though this is my 11th, if you can believe that, almost caught up with Seattle (which, by my count, has given me 13 springs). Spring here is kind of like me writing a paper–putting it off for weeks and then-bam-everything gets done at once: crocuses, daffodils, tulips in quick succession and a month later we’re already at lilacs. This year, lots of tornado warnings and violent thunderstorms, too, together with a heat wave that took us into the 80s last week.
This makes for a very pretty season, if you can catch it berfore it’s gone. Here’s the walk Pisco and I took today:
And meanwhile, beets and salad greens and kale and cucumbers are planted outside in our garden and the indoor seedlings (mostly tomatoes and peppers) that Jenny is minding are going strong:
In case it wasn’t clear in the earlier post, the vegetable garden at Jenny’s is both of ours; she just has the right space for it.
