Bad ginger ale! No! February 23, 2006

Posted by merp in Drink.

It didn’t turn out too well.

The floaty stuff at the top is just bits of ginger pulp and orange peel, no worries. But unattractive.

It tasted kind of like grapefruit soda, actually. Shouldn’t have included orange and ginger peel–or if orange, then no pith. And as before, the whole yeasty thing eventually produced a strange flavor not unlike gasoline. Unappealing.

So much for that. Now we plan to make concentrated brews to cut with carbonated water. Should be a lot easier.

Sauerkraut experience also does not look promising.

Oh, well… Grapefruit soda sounds horrible… 🙂

The thing I’ve always wanted to try making from scratch was yogurt. I never got around to it in the co-ops, though. When I was a kid, and my mom was back in school and very poor, she had a little yogurt maker and would make her own yogurt. I have no idea if it was any good, but something about the whole process appeals to me…

I’ve never tried yogurt but some of the co-ops at Oberlin used to do it. They used to mix a starter in with the milk and leave it in a barely warm oven overnight. I’m sure as long as your circumstances are relatively controlled it’s easy! Personally, however, it’s Brown Cow Cream-top all the way. **Mmmm, cream top.**

What exactly is the sauerkraut experience? Did have the same outcome as the Ginger Ale?
